Schreiber's research is focused on prehistoric imperialism in Andean South America. Her recently published book is entitled Wari Imperialism in Middle Horizon Peru (Anthropological Papers, Museum of Anthropology, University of Michigan, 1992). In Peru she is completing a multi-year program of survey and excavation in the Nasca region of the south coast, looking at the development of large-scale irrigation systems, the evolution of the Nasca civilization, and Wari imperial conquest.
